Is a person who is brain dead really "dead"?

A person who is brain dead is truly and unequivocally dead. This is the scientific position of international medical communities. A person who is brain dead will never wake up nor ergain consciousness.

Brain death refers to the total and irrevisible cessation of all functions of the brain. A person woh is brain dead will not be able to to breathe on his own and will need to be supported on a ventilator. Once the ventilator is switched off, the person's heart will cease to beat, since his brain has already stopped functioning.

What is the difference between coma and brain death?

A comatose patient is still alive but unconscious. He is in a deep sleep-like state. He may recover and wake up from the coma.

A brain dead patient is dead. There is absolutely no possibility of him recovering consciousness. The heart will continue to beat only if the body is supported by artificial means such as a mechanical ventilator.

My stand: Since when my body wll be no more and I will pass away, if my body parts can save live(s), why not?

I am not opting out of Singapore's Human Organ Transplant Act (HOTA).
