On my latest guitar lesson at All Music, Justin talked to me about being a sincere player.
I think he meant that in the context of a guitarist / instrumentalist / musician.
It's not a topic I have not come across, but hearing from someone who exemplifies it is different from just head-knowledge.
I remember, I was struggling with the idea of "how to play these notes on speed and articulating them in the bends and vibratos". Then, this is what I paraphrase from what Justin told me.
"You have to sing the notes in your heart. You are not playing it right 'cos you are not singing it in your heart. Sing. Even though your hand is in a frenzy, because that's what your mind tells your hands to do to play the notes, sing! Sing, then you are a sincere player. People can tell when you are playing from your heart and not just being mere technical."
Sing.
Sincerity.
Technicality.
Ain't this a biblical principle too?
Indeed, God will bless all those who obeys His principles, even those who have yet to know Him yet.
Ezekial 33:31-32
31 My people come to you, as
they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they
do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion,
but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. 32
Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with
a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your
words but do not put them into practice.
Lord, use me.
Lord, guide me as a sincere player.
Nothing I do is worth it unless it is really for You.
I want to be a sincere player.
