What's Safe to Ask During an Interview?

"Are you planning to have children?"

Hahaha.... Okay, I read this article on Businessweek.com related to what an interviewer can or cannot ask on the interviewee.

Here's the link.

Quoting from the article:

There are a set of categories that job-seekers and job-holders fall into that are called "protected classes." Contrary to popular belief, every adult falls into at least one protected class—even Caucasian men under the age of 40. That's because religion, race, and gender are among the designations that place someone in the protected-classes list. It is unlawful to discriminate in any employment decision, including a hiring decision, on the basis of a job-seeker's inclusion in any of these protected classes. So, for instance, you couldn't legally refuse to hire a woman because she is Latina or a man because he is Presbyterian.
Reading this article triggered me to think on a leadership principle, that we shouldn't discriminate a team player because of his/her background, but to give credit solely because of his/her performance in the team. Then again, I'm not saying that the leader should overlook the person's character and needs. I believe that everyone in a team ought to work hand-in-hand toward the same vision and goals. In giving everybody a deserved chance justly, a team is really a team.
